However, in Batman: Arkham Knight, we saw the Scarecrow take center stage with his Fear Toxin, injecting Batman himself and causing him to manifest as a “demon Batman.” It was a thrilling turn of events and a powerful use of the Fear Toxin. Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League builds upon this concept and sets the stage for an epic battle against Batman. However, the execution falls short.
When players confront Batman in Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, he uses the Fear Toxin on Task Force X, establishing continuity between the events of the Arkhamverse. But here’s the problem: Batman, unlike the other members of the Justice League, doesn’t possess any superpowers or artifacts. Thus, his boss battle becomes a repetitive encounter where players simply shoot bullets at the brainwashed hero. Batman becomes nothing more than a bullet sponge, devoid of meaningful mechanics.
Batman’s Boss Battle Fails to Utilize the Fear Toxin Effectively 🤔
Even the fight against The Flash, the very first Justice League member encountered in the game, is more mechanically complex. Task Force X must avoid tornadoes and various attacks while countering The Flash to deal damage. On the other hand, the boss battle against Batman lacks depth. Players can ignore the smaller mechanics of the fight and resort to shooting bullets to defeat him, even in his “demon form.” This renders Batman’s use of the Fear Toxin practically inconsequential during the actual boss fight, relegating it to a mere setup rather than a meaningful feature.
In Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, it is explained that Harley Quinn has concocted a counter-Fear Toxin, allowing Task Force X to resist Batman’s mind control and fight back. While this serves as a reasonable justification, it is disappointing considering the buildup from Arkham Knight. We were teased with the prospect of facing a formidable and agile demon Batman, only to find ourselves confronted with a stationary target taking bullets. This missed opportunity, combined with the lack of meaningful Fear Toxin mechanics, results in either a forgettable experience for newcomers or a frustrating one for Arkhamverse veterans.
